Bio
Hi! My name is Sonia Kiang, and I am a Franco-Chinese film composer.

With a background in musical theatre, I’ve been used to stepping into the skin of characters, understanding their emotions, and bringing their motives to life. It fuels my work as a composer, as I try to craft music that reflects the depth of the characters on screen and the emotions they embody.
My music tends to be a reflection of my past experiences and influences, and range from intimate and minimalist compositions to lush, sweeping orchestrations inspired by Broadway, Japanese animation and video game scores, as well as Icelandic ambient soundscapes or electronic music. I also love exploring experimental textures, blending voice, natural sounds, and unconventional techniques to create music that feels alive and immersive.

I compose for films, visual media, contemporary music projects, and musical theatre. Performing live remains an important part of who I am—it’s where I connect directly with audiences and continue pushing creative boundaries. For me, every project is an invitation to dive deep into its story and create music that resonates on an emotional level.

In 2019, I graduated as valedictorian from the Musicien.ne des Musiques Actuelles program at Trempolino in Nantes and studied film music and orchestral composition at Courts-On in Paris. In 2021, I joined the U2C Mentoring Program as a film composer mentee. In 2024, I was honored to receive the LABEL COMPO award from La Maison du Film, and I am thrilled to be joining the TRIO residency in 2025.
